TRICKY TREAT

TRICKY TREAT OR PERFECT GIFT?

There was once a beautiful garden. God himself planted it. He created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, assigning them, to be its caretakers.

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:15-17).

One day the wicked, fallen angel, Satan, approached Eve. He pointed out that the fruit which God had forbidden them to eat, was not only pleasant to look at, but also quite delicious. He lied, telling her that, if she ate it, she would become like God. He tricked her with what appeared to be a wonderful treat!

Both Satan and God offer gifts to people. Satan’s gifts are designed to trick folks into doing evil. He frequently presents Himself as an “angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

God’s gifts are different. Ultimately, all good gifts come from Him.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

That day Eve and her husband, Adam, (who was with her) yielded to Satan’s temptation. They ate the delicious forbidden “treat” and thereby plunged the entire human race into sin and death. Only an all-powerful Savior could rescue them, or any of their offspring, from God’s eternal wrath. The Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, became that Savior. He did so by giving Himself as a blood sacrifice to pay for the sins of His people.

Today, Satan still uses deadly tricky treats to lure people into enjoying sin. Only Christ provides a gift which will save your soul eternally.

Are you still pursuing some tricky treat of Satan, or have you called out in repentance, asking God to forgive you and save you, forever, because of Christ’s sacrifice?

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
