Wise Question

Wise Question Stirred by Christ’s Birth

“Where is He…?” they asked. This question deserves careful contemplation. First, let’s read the context.

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”         (Matthew 2:1-2)

Notice that those asking this question are identified as wise men. You and I are often afraid to ask questions for fear of displaying our ignorance. These men asked a question which displayed their wisdom!

They asked, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews?” They were looking for Jesus. This displayed wisdom. They understood His authority over God’s chosen people. This displayed wisdom. They knew that Jesus deserves worship as God. This displayed wisdom. They were so convinced of the truth that they acted upon it and had “come to worship Him.” This displayed wisdom!

Consider, for a moment, the difference between these wise men and many, today, who only pretend to be wise. The wise men asked, “Where is He?” Today many ask, instead, “Who am I?” Instead of desiring to come face to face with our creator, as did the wise men, many, today, have embraced the foolish fabrication of an evolutionary theory as a substitute creator. Instead of committing to worship Christ as God many, today, seek to establish themselves as God. Speaking of themselves they say, “I’m going to take care of number one.” This is exactly what Satan desired when he presented his temptation in the Garden of Eden.

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5)

Christ Jesus, the Lord, was born to die as the sacrificial Lamb of God who shed His blood for all whose hearts God causes to seek Him. Speaking of Christ to Joseph, the angel said:

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).

Has God breathed wisdom into your heart to seek Christ as Savior, or are you still foolish?
