DEPOSING AN EVIL LEADER

History abounds with cruel dictators who have lied their way into power and the hearts of people. Today, the most powerful deceiver ever to capture those hearts is, again, employing these age-old tactics. He wins followers by promising great pleasures and golden tomorrows. Though a master at churning out lies and murder, he presents himself as the embodiment of truth and light. He is constantly on the prowl for ways to devour his opponents.

His name? Satan! Listen to God’s Word concerning him. Jesus said, to the leaders of Israel, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it (John 8:44).” The Apostle Paul wrote “… for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).” The Apostle Peter wrote, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).” Peter continues by showing that Satan is so cunning that he has deceived the world at large. “…the whole world lieth in wickedness (1 Peter 5:19).”

So, what are we to do? Many years ago, a man in the clutches of Satan asked Paul and Silas this same question when he cried out, “…what must I do to be saved (Acts 16:30)?” They replied, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,… (Acts 16:31).” Our enemy is so powerful that only God’s grace can depose him from his power over our souls. To this end, the Son of God, Jesus Christ the Lord, gave Himself as a willing blood sacrifice to save all who, in faith, ask Him to deliver them from sin and be their Lord.

Have you cried out to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, to depose the evil ruler of your heart and to make you a redeemed child of God through faith?
