FUTILE RAGE

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (Psalm 2:1-3).

This ancient Biblical exclamation is as modern as today’s newspaper! The rage of God-haters has permeated society. It is a result of sin which has infected each descendent of Adam and Eve since they disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. “Freedom From Religion” seems to be the battle cry of many. This fury is vented, primarily, against those who follow Christ. Have you noticed that most restrictions against prayer in public places are applied to those who pray in the name of Christ? The prayers of those, who pray to other gods, are protected as “cultural diversity”. The Devil doesn’t hate religion. In fact he often uses it to his own anti-Christ purposes!

Today, Christianity sometimes seems in danger of extinction! Has God failed in His purpose to propagate the gospel of salvation? Listen to God’s answer in the declaration which immediately follows the quote above. “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion” (Psalm 2:4-6).

Who rules? God does! God the Son, Jesus Christ, has been given the title “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16). He is the one who came to die on the cross of Calvary to pay the blood sacrifice for all who come to Him in faith.

He declares man’s rage laughable and, ultimately, futile. Eventually each of us will be dealt with appropriately, either by salvation, or by condemnation.

God tells us “…faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Are you isolated from the teaching of God’s Word? If so, you’re out of contact with the very channel through which God breathes life into a dead human heart. Only He can cause you to want His teaching!

In which way will God deal with you? Will He give your heart life and faith, or will your dead heart continue to oppose or ignore Him?
